The incident happened near the intersection of South Wabash and East Green streets in the Bronzeville neighborhood on Monday, according a Chicago Police Department statement.
Police said they received a call from a family member who said their son, 19-year-old Joshua Smith, was in the crosswalk and was struck by a vehicle as he crossed the street.
Joshua Smith, who was riding his motorcycle with friends, was struck multiple times by the car and pronounced dead at the scene, according the statement.
Witnesses reported seeing the driver of the vehicle, who did not have a ticket, turn right onto East Green, and drive northbound on North Clark Street.
The statement said police are investigating whether the driver, a male in his 30s, was speeding and the vehicle did not stop.
The investigation is ongoing.
The family is asking for privacy during the investigation.
Police do not believe anyone else was at fault, the statement said.
